Sue Covitz is the Executive Director at Families First. She has held leadership positions with the organization since 2006. Her roles have included Director of Strategic Partnerships, Director of Outreach and Education, and Deputy Director.
Since becoming the Executive Director in 2016, Sue has more than doubled the budget and staff at Families First. She has led the development of 3 business plans and expanded the organization’s footprint to Western MA and across the state. The new Business Plan includes the potential for the organization to expand outside of Massachusetts.
Over the past few years, Sue has centered the voices of parents in the organization. She supported the launch of a Parent Representative Committee which ensures that parents are consulted on key decisions being made in the organization. During her time as Executive Director, 4 parents have joined the Board and 4 parents have been hired as full-time employees.
Prior to joining Families First, Sue served as the Executive Director of Greater Options for Adolescent Lives. She has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit management, coalition building, and community organizing.
She received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Haverford College and a Master of Social Work from Boston College. Sue is the parent of two daughters and participated as a parent in Families First workshops when her children were toddlers.
