My name is Alifya, and I am a parent leader and a member of the Parent Representative Committee (PRC) at Families First. Families First is a place where I’ve been able to find support and learn over the past few years, and I’m eager to share my experience with others.
I am grateful for the Power of Parenting (POP) program, which is how I first got involved with Families First. At first, I wasn’t sure what I could learn from the program. However, my doubts quickly disappeared as the sessions began. The sessions were both informative and engaging. At the time, I was struggling with managing my daughter’s behavior. Through POP, I learned valuable advice from the other parents and our Program Facilitator, from managing my children’s routines to understanding their emotional needs. Through this program, I learned to react differently, with more patience, leading to deeper connections with my children.
As a preschool teacher, I’ve been able to apply these same lessons and skills for the benefit of my students. I prioritize a nurturing environment for all children, understanding their individual needs, and fostering growth and development. My vision for the future is to continue learning and contributing to my community.
